Welcome to the monthly Simple questions and Help thread, for questions that don't need their own posts!
Before making a comment, we recommend you search your problem on Bing and check if your question is already answered on our Windows Frequently Asked Questions wiki page. This subreddit no longer accepts tech support requests outside of this post, if you are looking for additional assistance try r/TechSupport and r/WindowsHelp.
Some examples of questions to ask:
Is this super cheap Windows key legitimate? (probably not)
How can I install Windows 11?
Can you recommend a program to play music?
How do I get back to the old Sound Control Panel?
Sorting by New is recommend and is the default.
Be sure to check out the Windows 11 version 24H2 Megathread and also the Windows 11 FAQ posts, they likely have the answers to your Windows 11 questions already!

Hello,
that's a repost from List of the best free apps : r/Windows11
There are at least 3 persons who searched for a calendar app with support for outlook.com and google calendars.
Windows 11 Outlook web app and the calendar from Outlook Office 365 are terrible. Windows 11 To-Do is for tasks, support only one outlook.com address and is not really a calendar.
At least for me a simple calendar app would be enough, like the calendar from Windows 11 taskbar. I want only see dates, enter dates with a short text and get a reminder. It should support google and outlook.com calendars.
Any suggestions?

Does your PC support virtualization?
If yes, then you can do a really cool thing.
Download the windows 11 iso and enable Hyper-V in Programs and Features menu.
Next, add a new Hyper-V machine, but select to use the ISO, not the included options. Make the disk image about 1/4 of the available storage. (80 GB recommended)
In the Machine options select Microsoft UEFI and Secure Boot and, looking it up on Google, select 3/4 of the cores you have in your CPU and 2/4 of the ram you have.
Go on with the installation (select Windows 11 pro, in case it says that the PC is not supported add more resources if available, else google is your friend) till the thing that says "Restarting in ..." and quickly turn off the machine.
Download EasyBCD and install it. (If it says that secure boot is enabled, click on okay and ignore it) In the menu for Add a new entry look down and you should see VHD Image.
In file path, click on the open button or the three dots and look for your disk image. (Pro tip: in the hyper-v machine settings there should be the path for the disk.)
Add whatever name you like and click on add and exit out of the program. Reboot your PC and select the boot option you created and continue on with the install.
(Second pro tip: if you do not want to add a Microsoft account press Shift+F10 and type in "cd oobe" and "bypassnro" then click on "I don't have a network" in the wifi section to create a local account but after install connect to a network)
Install all the updates, drivers, and you're done, you're dual-booting a VHD!
A notice tho, the image is dynamic, so always keep the required space on your PC or else Windows 11 will complain.

Hi. Is there a photo viewer for canon raw files (CR3) that automatically recognizes text? I have hundreds of images that I need some part of the text extracted so I am looking for a good solution. I used mac until now so that is one feature I am missing. Thanks

Is there a way to organize large numbers of photos in different folders in Windows 11?
Tag them and recognize faces etc., sort of the way Picassa used to? So if I tag an image as "Tom" it will find all the other images with Tom in them and tag them or move them to a folder named Tom or whatever I want to do with them.
Every app I try seems to tag the photos in that app only. When you go back to Windows 11 File Explorer, none of the photos have been tagged and none of the faces are recognized to be able to group them together automatically. Everything seems like you have to do it one image and one folder at a time.

Why does the win 11 MS paints save button always open save as and always default to a different file format and location than the one I opened?
I generally use paint for quick edits. I also like to save as I go with ctrl+s but I can't just save my progress with a quick press of a button, I have to switch formats and navigate to the directory I opened the file in originally?
What happened to just saving progress like normal?
Can we just have save, save to the current file/location that was opened, and use save as to save as a new file? Both buttons should not do the same thing...

I am using Windows 11 on a Dell XPS 13 model 9350 from 2024 using the Intel Lunar Lake cpu. After a fresh Windows 11 installation, the initial Windows Update automatically installed the Killer application and around 5 Killer related services:
Can I safely remove all of them because I just want to use the standard Wifi networking services provided by Windows 11? Thanks

How do I eliminate the message in MS Edge without turning off the flag? I am using this flag to run the XDM extension. I don't care about the stability and security risks. I just want to download my damn anime! This message every time I open Edge, has been driving me insane.

After a fresh Windows 11 installation and a full automated Windows update, I have a lot of Intel Services Running, the Dell XPS 13 9350 is using the latest Intel Lunar Lake CPU/Silicon, therefore I assume some of them are important, but I am sure I can safely Disable some that I don't use (I removed the Intel Graphics app for example, do I need the Graphics Command Center?), please could you help advising which ones can be disable, thanks

So I do have Auto HDR deactivated in the system settings, yet every time I start a game, Windows keeps asking me if I happen to want to activate it. No, I effing don't, and I won't in the future.
Is there any possibility to deactivate this crappy "feature" altogether? My current workaround is to deactivate the notification, but that's somewhat dissatisfying as it only prevents the symptom instead of getting rid of the root problem.

Because I no longer can see any comment option on those stories, nor view my own comments on previous stories.
Also, for the record, the moderation is completely ridiculous on most of those news stories. I lost count of how many times I try to comment only for me to be told that I'm somehow against the community standards.

Hello, so I have a machine with dual boot and I'm perfectly happy with Linux, but sometimes I need to do some work that requires booting into Windows. While doing that, I naturally use browsers, listen to music, etc. I was wondering what steps I should take to ensure that
a) Windows doesn't mess around with other OS
b) possible Windows malware doesn't have access to my other OS and personal files
c) Windows in-built spyware doesn't have access to my personal files
Does it make sense to restrict system access to the hard drives (and NAS) I don't need in Windows, or is that not an option since physically all the drives are still in the machine and Windows can see them? Would changing filesystem to ext4 help with the above points (I know it would in the case of malware)? Maybe I read too much into what Windows can see and shouldn't worry about my files of all things? But with Recall and Copilot it's hard to imagine how Microsoft wouldn't have access to everything. Thanks.

I've uploaded a custom cursor I made in Inkscape, converted to '.cur' but everytime I upload it in the Windows 11 mouse properties, it's like twice the size of a standard Windows 11 cursor. When I go into the pointer settings (separate window) to change cursor size, it resets to the standard Windows 11 cursor. Thanks.

Just wanted to ask.
Has anyone received 24H2 over Windows Update?
Currently running 23H2 22635.4805.
CPU is a 13700K with 64GB DDR5 and a 1TB Samsung 990 Pro boot drive.
Welp...
It seems I'm just getting it now.
Just did an update check after posting this, for a lark.
26120.3073 is downloading now.

To clarify I have 2 monitors and plan to have a desktop for each use case, so one for gaming and discord on the other monitor, one for coding, one for studying etc.
Will having them all open consume the power of all those apps running simultaneously? or does it automatically shut down or put them to sleep when I switch to other desktop?
So, would it be better if I stick to main desktop and only open them when I need to? or its of no cons to have them opened all the time on different dekstops?
