Not hard to do when reddit sees the word "conservative" and immediately assumes trump lover.
Not saying that isn't the case here, but they don't need much to make up their minds lol

In what way? It’s just a US conservative choosing the most conservative area of Canada.

99% sure OP is a Canadian. No American knows enough detail of Canadian politics to make a map like this.
13
u/lonewolfsociety Mar 08 '26
Nah apparently there's a bunch of X accounts based in the US pretending to be Albertan separatists.
4
u/ElizabethDangit Mar 08 '26
That’s so goddamn weird. Also the whole Alberta separatists is weird. Canada tops lists for education and quality of life. Who looks at that and says “fuck this”?
8
u/CrackMans Mar 08 '26
Idiots and foreign actors
6
u/Jerking4jesus Mar 08 '26
I seriously believe its a psyop to destabilize Canada.
3

1
u/CrackMans Mar 08 '26
There's a few videos on it online but yeah, it is. The UCP takes money from US oil companies and a large amount of Albertan separation accounts are from America or other countries
3
u/ValHallerie Mar 08 '26
USA is trying to do what Russia did to the Donbas region.
1
u/ElizabethDangit Mar 08 '26
Nah, it’s just a small minority of people being assholes. People in the south don’t know enough about Canada to know what where Alberta is and what resources it has. All they know is that it’s cold. We learn a lot more about Mexico in school. People up north think the “51st state” thing is fucking stupid. We’re happy with the border just the way it is. I grew up in the south and have lived in a northern border state for about 20 years now. I absolutely don’t want a border dispute in my backyard.
2
u/Ill-Reputation-9702 Mar 08 '26
It’s about their oil industry being upset about woke renewable energy pushes, ya know… away from their main industry. So yah, big oil money helping push to at minimum, force Ottawa to lessen regulations. If I’m not mistaken..
5
u/Silent-Fishing-7937 Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26
A bunch of MAGAhats have started to heavily fetishize Alberta and believe Albertans have a vision of the world similar to theirs.
The last poll on the subject showed that Albertans would have preferred Harris to win by a higher margin than the one by which California voted for her, and an even more recent poll showed Trump has a 21% approval rating in Alberta. But then, the MAGAhats aren't generally fact-oriented people, so here we are...

Honestly, even that comparaison doesn't work, or at least doesn't work anymore. A Canadian version of Colorado with oil reserve would be closer to the mark IMO.
1
u/CyclicDombo Mar 08 '26
Depends where. The mountains and prairies are totally different cultures in Alberta.
1
1
u/lemonhead2345 Mar 08 '26
From a small pool of Albertans that I met at a meeting in a small community in Alberta last year during the height of the “51st state” BS, this tracks. Their conservative is vastly different from US conservative. We all had a full vent session about the state of US politics that was quite refreshing. 😅
1
u/Hsiang7 Mar 08 '26
No American knows enough detail of Canadian politics to make a map like this.
As an American, all I see is the 51st State 🤔
10
u/CollenOHallahan Mar 08 '26
Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the vast majority of Ontario have very solid people living in them from a conservative view.
4
u/Dr_Ironfist1987 Mar 08 '26
Im from PA and lived in Montana for a while.. I was on a catamaran in Hawaiii and everyone got sea sick, except for me and one dude from Ontario.. we were basically the same person, drank like 6-8 beers together and became best friends for the rest of the trip

3
u/Friendly_Fun8345 Mar 08 '26
Weather is terrible in Alberta. I would never live even if there was zero tax
2
u/Narrow-Journalist889 Mar 08 '26
It has some of the best weather in Canada
1
u/Friendly_Fun8345 Mar 08 '26
What about the long cold winter ?
2
u/Clax3242 Mar 08 '26
This winter had like 7 days in the minus. It was the warmest winter of my life. Last week it was +20
1
u/Friendly_Fun8345 Mar 08 '26
What city ? That’s completely different from what i heard in the past
1
u/Clax3242 Mar 08 '26
Lethbridge. But even Calgary had an extremely warm winter. Farther north definitely was colder but we have some incredible weather. In the past and what I typically expect is, random snowfall bear halloween, warms up in November. Random snowfall in Dec, stays freezing for a week. Random week in Jan is like -50 then Feb is around zero. March is warm enough that people start planting stuff then another massive snowfall right after

u/Adventurous-Bat-9254 Mar 08 '26
As an Albertan, I would prefer you not be here.
39
u/kbh92 Mar 08 '26
Listen I have no dog in this dick measuring contest but I will say I spent quite some time in Alberta for a work project and lived in Texas for a few years and on average you guys are pretty similar.
12
u/Inconsideratefather Mar 08 '26
Canadians and Americans in general, have more in common than either would like to admit. The biggest difference is that Americans are ingrained to think they are better than everyone else, while Canadians are only ingrained to think they are better than Americans. Either could integrate into the others society with no significant lifestyle changes.
6
u/boforbojack Mar 08 '26
I mean, I wouldn't have student debt and I would go to the doctors more if j lived in Canada.
2
u/CJLB Mar 08 '26
You can still get a pretty decent student debt here
6
u/ThesisTears Mar 08 '26
Nah dude. 0% interest makes a BIG difference. Besides universities aren't asking $100k/year here.
1
u/kbh92 Mar 08 '26
Agree completely. There is no major “culture shock” crossing the border into Canada it’s kinda just like going to Wisconsin/Michigan/Minnesota.
1
u/pmyourcoffeemug Mar 08 '26
Not culture shock, but if you’ve ever been to Europe you can see the subtle differences between USA and Canada.
1
u/kbh92 Mar 08 '26
Lived in France as a kid for a bit and been to Europe quite a few times. Sure there’s subtle differences. But they’re on the level of state by state differences in the US. No more drastic a change than going from Arizona to Maine or Kentucky to Massachusetts etc.
6
4
u/oldfatunicorn Mar 08 '26
Why would you use a dog in a dick measuring contest?
18
5
u/crek42 Mar 08 '26
Dogs got a smaller dick. Automatic win.
3
u/Ichi_Balsaki Mar 08 '26
Idk man... I just image searched 'big dog dick' and saw some shit that I probably shouldn't have....
2
2
u/goahedbanme Mar 08 '26
Cause I've seen my dogs dick, and I've seen mine. If I want to win I know who's I'm measuring.
2
u/ActuatorSeparate7300 Mar 08 '26
How is this possible? Your dog must be filthy.
2
u/goahedbanme Mar 08 '26
Dogs show their lipstick for many reasons. If you had a male dog, even fixed, you'd know.
3
u/ActuatorSeparate7300 Mar 08 '26
I guess I misread your comment... Swear it said you've never seen your dog's dick lmao. In my defense I think I commented that at 3am.
edit: nvm it wasn't that late lol
1
u/KTPChannel Mar 08 '26
I am an Albertan who has lived and worked in Texas. Completely different culture.
2
u/kbh92 Mar 08 '26
Well I’m an American who’s spent time in both and I say you’re similar! Now what do we do??
1
u/KTPChannel Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26
Explain which Albertan cities have racialized neighborhoods similar to any major American city.
1
u/kbh92 Mar 08 '26
What kind of radical neighborhoods do you think exist in all of our cities? Lefties? Righties? Angry inbetweeners? Our cities are good bit more boring than you’re giving them credit for.
1
u/KTPChannel Mar 08 '26
Racialized, not radicalized.
1
u/kbh92 Mar 08 '26
Ah, a misread. There’s some degree of that sure. But it seems to be a developing similar trend with South Asian communities in Canada. City of Brampton as a leading example
1
u/KTPChannel Mar 08 '26
Brampton is in Ontario. There is no community in Alberta remotely close to the racialized neighborhoods of any city, town or village in Texas, or any “progressive” American state.
1
u/kbh92 Mar 08 '26
Sure, that was one prominent example in the country. Quick google suggests similar pockets in Calgary and Edmonton but I’m sure you’re a little better there than we are. Still - similar doesn’t mean “the same” and there’s lots of similarities unrelated to your fixation on neighborhood demographics.

Lol you're joking right? America has blatantly disrespected Canada by making threats and starting a trade war and that made sure any admiration Canada had is long gone

Most Canadians do not have a deep admiration for America lol
12
u/DisastrousTale6123 Mar 08 '26
Oh shut up yes we do. Nobody actually hates American people, just their overreaching government (at times). You’d have to be wilfully hating if you didn’t at least admire the way they’ve led the world order since WW2, even if you disagree with the messaging or methods. Yes they have problems but they’re proud and I admire that, even if they are loud, annoying, ignorant, or rude.
2
u/Victor-Triumph Mar 08 '26
All of your upvotes are delusional Americans insisting falsehoods are true just because they want lies to be true. One of many reasons why Canadians have a long proud history of looking down on silly Americans.
1
u/FartyNapkins54 Mar 08 '26
I dont hate most Americans but I do not have a deep admiration for America lol
1
u/Antique_Plastic7894 Mar 08 '26
When was Bidens or any of the Democratic governments overreaching exactly?
The problem is that 50% of the American voters are delusional and voted a guy who tried and kinda managed to coup the government, who's incompetence and corruption has no bounds and keeps breaking public institutions as we speak.
1
u/DisastrousTale6123 Mar 08 '26
Obama had more drone strikes than any other president. I agree, Trump is bad.
1
u/Antique_Plastic7894 Mar 09 '26
I don't know what Obama being bomber in chief has to do with anything.
Do you think just number of drone strikes defines who was worse?
Obama didn't start war in the middle east, he had to handle it... he had to fight ISIS, and Houthies and many other organizations... he made quite a few mistakes, but He wasn't initiator of those conflicts, he had to manage the mess that was created during Bush, you understand that right?
You can't blame Obama for conditions set 6 years before his admin was even in the office, that's not just delusional that's ret@rded.
1
u/DisastrousTale6123 Mar 09 '26
Republicans and democrats are two sides of the same coin. The same institutions that are required to further American interests are the same ones that overreach. They don’t disappear depending on the party in power. I don’t disagree that he didn’t start another war but definitely kept with the theme of widening and escalating the conflict.

Do you want to continue burying your head in the sand when it comes to global warming? Do you advocate for ridiculous and completely unnecessary gun rights? Do you love all eggs in one basket approaches to the economy (oil for example)? Are you a bible thumper or heavily Christian? Anti abortion? Do you want to drive a jacked up, gas guzzling pick up? Anti vax? Generally pro-conspiracy? Do you love to b&tch about government, while providing no real alternative or solutions? Would you like a provincial leader that lies about everything and is as dense as a log?
My man! Look no further than the armpit of Canada, the Texas of Canada!
Albertuh.
P.S On a more serious note, Canada is artificially closed to Americans right now. To be crystal clear we do NOT want you here. Contrary to what folks think, the image of an Albertan conservative is more of an outdoorsman. His guns generally have a purpose of hunting and/or predator defense while he is hiking his way through a public crown land to that super secret squirrel fishing spot that nobody knows where he can pop a beer and smoke weed while fishing for a trout for the rest of the day. Not exactly a god, family, country cowboy you see in Texas.

You pretty much just described my neighbor. He hasn't bought meat in like 5 years, He goes hunting with his daughters sometimes but mostly goes alone with his friends. He makes awesome homemade booze.
I'm from Edmonton but have relatives that had farms and spent a lot of time going through small towns. I'm pretty left leaning but don't really have a problem with conservatives too much. It depends on how much they've been influenced by US media.
4
u/Steezeballl Mar 08 '26
Choosing what country to live in based on politics? Borderline sensible.
Choosing what state/province to live in based on politics? You've lost the fking plot and need to stop letting politics dictate your life. It's not that serious.

I have lived and worked in most parts of Canada. Yes, Alberta is quite conservative, although Edmonton has always been an exception and I believe Calgary is also becoming less conservative as it grows with newcomers from other parts of Canada and the world. For sure, rural and small town Alberta is very conservative, but I'm not sure it is any more conservative than rural areas of BC, Saskatchewan and even Ontario.
3
u/DabbledInPacificm Mar 08 '26
Yall’s “conservativism” is not Texas’s conservativism.
Both places have economies dependent on natural resources and agriculture and both populaces have majorities that do not trust the federal government. The similarities end about there.
