Hello, everyone! Here's another list of upcoming metroidvania games that may have flown under your radar!
As always, a video showcasing the games can be watched here: https://youtu.be/4i_Zt2btOjI
For those who do not want to watch the video, I cover the below titles:
Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster: This is an action adventure metroidvania game with art reminiscent of cartoons from the 80s and 90s and heavily inspired by the Sword and Sorcery genre of fantasy fiction! The story transpires in the realm of Arborea, a war-torn land that’s in the middle of a conflict between a powerful king and the non-human inhabitants of the land. You brandish the blade of Ren, the last Beastmaster of Arborea, a man with the ability to use the souls of animals to take their shape, a warrior of prophecy, destined to unite humans and beasts and bring peace to this tortured place. His journey will pit him against powerful foes as well as introduce invaluable allies across a world full of secrets waiting to be uncovered, including new sword techniques as well as materials in the form of fangs, amulets and plant roots, all of which will improve his attacks, health and mana. What’s of interest here is that, at certain parts of the game, there’s an arena element that has you battling foes in gladiatorial style, turning gameplay into a beat-em-up variant similar to series like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, and presenting you with special rewards if you emerge victorious. This is a game I featured on my channel a couple of years ago, but it recently got a new trailer, release date window as well as console port announcement, so it deserves an encore! Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster is expected to come out sometime in the Fall of 2026, and has been confirmed for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch as well as the Xbox Series X!
Death Eclipse: Reign of the Undying: Wage war against unimaginable horrors across a world consumed by immortality in Death Eclipse: Reign of the Undying, a metroidvania that’s all about stylish combat! The game will throw relentless waves of enemies on your path, which you’re going to have to obliterate with your scythe in brutal, combo-driven battles that will have you hacking and slashing in seamless fashion like a dancer of death. Your fighting arsenal is complemented by a raven companion, who will not only support you in your fighting but also exploration by revealing secret paths and assisting in the solution of ancient puzzles scattered across the land. Your battles against the undying legions are further enhanced by the use of armor sets, with each one granting unique abilities that completely change the way you approach combat, thus giving way to some welcome variety. Death Eclipse: Reign of the Undying has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
CALX: Explore a vast planet filled with crystal structures and ancient technology in CALX, a 3D metroidvania inspired by visionary sci-fi art. You are the Seeker, and you go on a journey across planet Syro in order to uncover the fate of the alien Quoths civilization, a mission that will take you through a diverse range of landscapes, each one with its own theme and feel. CALX is meant to be, both, a contemplative as well as frenzied experience, fluctuating between moments of stillness and intense combat like rhythmic waves. Movement is your main tool here, with exploratory abilities such as the double jump, air dash, levitation and grappling hook allowing you to freely traverse the world and discover the numerous secrets it’s hiding. Combat mixes melee as well as ranged attacks, and places emphasis on a dodge mechanic which will have you quickly evading enemy assaults in order to find openings and retaliate. Both, combat and traversal-related skills are upgraded via the use of ancient technology remnants that you recover, effectively making you a much more formidable explorer, and threat. If the game interests you there’s a demo currently available, so give it a go! CALX is expected to come out on the 4th of June, 2026, and has been confirmed for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch as well as the Xbox Series X and Series S!
The Legend of Chalkvania: If you’re looking for a bite-sized, retro-styled metroidvania reminiscent of the Game Boy era, The Legend of Chalkvania has you covered! The Sword of Grayscale, a weapon forged to imprison a terrible evil threatening the Chalklands, lies shattered, and it is up to you, the Guardian of Castle Grayscale, to gather the fragments and save the land! Wonderfully nostalgic visuals aside, The Legend of Chalkvania boasts a compact world filled to the brim with secrets to uncover, inhabitants to interact with and foes to beat, with its small size working in its favor as every single journey you’ll take and encounters you’ll come across has been designed as a memorable experience. The game features more than 20 different enemy types, including some intense boss battles, which you’ll be able to overcome by making use of a variety of armaments, including whips, bows and throwing knives. Of special note here is a choice mechanic implemented, which will have you influencing certain encounters and outcomes according to certain decisions you’ll be called to make. The Legend of Chalkvania is expected to come out sometime in October of 2026, and has been confirmed for PC!
Project Ants: Wield the sword of a powerful ant warrior in search of his lost queen in Project Ants, a 3D metroidvania title aiming to bring together the in-depth exploration of Hollow Knight and the technical hack and slash combat of Ninja Gaiden! The fallen insect kingdom you’ll get to explore is sprawling and unforgiving, with deadly enemies and treacherous traps waiting around every corner in order to bring your mission to an untimely end. The world is quite vertical, and will require mastery of your various movement abilities in order discover every single secret it hides, but also to optimize your traversal routes, with skills such as wall running and hook grappling allowing you to move around the setting like a demented ninja. Now, as fun as exploration appears to be, combat does take center stage here, with each clash you’ll get to experience being a tactical dance of attacks, dodges and deflections meant to create openings in order for you to move in for a deadly strike, with the game also featuring a dismemberment mechanic, which I always adore. Furthermore, Project Ants features a pheromone system, which allows you to enhance mobility and exploration as well as helps chain combos together, though exactly how that works remains to be seen. In addition, the title boasts a lot of playstyle customization via the existence of upgrades related to your traversal abilities, your weapons and equipment as well as certain map enhancements, thus giving way for you to tailor the experience to your own tastes. I cannot overstate how impressed I am by this game, which will certainly be a Day 1 purchase for me! Project Ants has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
Vampire’s Veil: This is a metroidvania inspired by the absolute classics that are Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night! Seven years ago, a group of vampire hunters attacked the castle of Lord Damian Thorn and imprisoned him and his wives in a crystal which they then divided amongst them. With the last of his power, Damian awakens you, Selene, the last member of his family that wasn’t imprisoned, now tasked with reclaiming the crystal fragments and freeing them! In Vampire’s Veil you are the apex predator, and will face off against unconventional enemies such as fairies, gnomes and elven paladins! Featuring amazing visuals and animations, hectic combat, in-depth exploration and challenging platforming, Vampire’s Veil is shaping up to become a great addition to the genre! This is the second and last game on this list that I’ve featured in the past, but it recently got a new, longer trailer as well as made a demo available, so it gets an encore! Vampire’s Veil has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
The Secret of Crystal Mountain: Crystal Mountain Isle used to be the largest magic crystal exporter, responsible for providing crystals to witches and wizards around the world for generations. However, one day the exports stopped, and the island has been shrouded in mystery ever since. You step into the boots of a delivery cat who finds himself stranded on the isle, and embarks on a journey to uncover its secrets. That’s the premise of The Secret of Crystal Mountain, a metroidvania that draws a lot of inspiration from the awesome platformers of the PS2-era, as well as the masterpiece that is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time! While combat is present here, with you being capable of taking on the various foes populating the setting in exciting one-on-one sword fights, it is the aspect of exploration that truly steals the show, since Crystal Mountain Isle functions as a sprawling puzzle box that you’ll need to solve, with some of its conundrums requiring the use of certain items you’ll find on your journey, such as bombs and a flute, while others necessitating the utility of various traversal abilities, including double jumping, swimming and gliding. This game looks like it’s going to be a true nostalgia trip, and I’m all here for it! The Secret of Crystal Mountain is expected to come out sometime in 2027, and has been confirmed for PC and Nintendo Switch!
Aussie Bogan Hero: People familiar with me know that there’s a very specific place in our world that I consider to be hell on Earth, and that is none other than Australia, the country that’s home to every single thing I’m terrified of whose name starts with an S. Whether it’s spiders, sharks, snakes, scorpions or scrocodiles, each and every one of them solidifies the fact that I will never visit the land Down Under, at least not in real life, since Aussie Bogan Hero aims to allow us to experience all of the aforementioned horrors from the comfort of our homes! Take on the role of Davo, a mullet-wearing, beer-loving legend of a Bogan who decides to go up against the evil Drill and Thrill corporation after their latest dig into an opal mine unleashes untold horrors upon the Australian outback while also threatening Davo’s favorite pub with closure. Needless to say, Aussie Bogan Hero doesn’t take itself too seriously and aims to be simple, silly fun, though that doesn’t mean that gameplay isn’t expected to be engaging. From countless fights against mutated versions of Australia’s most fearsome wildlife to numerous puzzles that you’ll have to solve by using a variety of thematically appropriate tools, all the way to the whole journey being permeated by authentic Aussie humor, Aussie Bogan Hero looks like it’s going to be a good time for anyone looking for a lighthearted, yet irreverent, adventure. There’s even a demo for you to check it out for yourself, so no time like the present. Aussie Bogan Hero is expected to come out sometime in the first quarter of 2026 and has been confirmed for PC, though the release date has not been fully verified!
Fantasy Network: If you’ve ever wondered what a metroidvania game themed around the chaotic world of social media would be like, wonder no more because Fantasy Network is here to give you the answer! Transpiring in the deceptively cheerful world of Holua, Fantasy Network tells the story of Lyn, a girl that must win Holua’s presidential election in order to save her mother, who has been kidnapped! To do that, she is going to have to do her best in order to raise her popularity amongst the good people of Holua, and that’s where the game’s social media aspect comes into play. In essence, Lyn will have to make frequent use of Holua’s social media applications in order to stay in touch with the citizenry, where she will be able to chat for intel, post photos of her adventures and gather likes in order to grow her fanbase. To that end, she will need to gather credits, the game’s currency, which will allow her to buy new equipment and download the latest apps in order to keep up with the times. She will also have to compete in a variety of talent shows, including cooking, gaming, racing, dance and fashion, with each win bringing her one step closer to her goal. Social media aside, you can also expect combat and platforming challenges, in line with the genre’s conventions. Fantasy Network has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC, with plans for consoles if the game’s upcoming Kickstarter campaign is successful!
Nulphia: Haunted by strange dreams and guided by a restless spirit, you, a young adventurer, embark on a journey to the vibrant island of Nulphia in order to deal with events that have been centuries in the making! As expected, the island is a dangerous place, the home of a once powerful kingdom that fell after an intense battle between wizards ravaged the land. Now the ghosts of the past are resurfacing, and it is up to you to put an end to the threat that once more looms over Nulphia. The game is quite narrative oriented, with you needing to interact with the island’s various inhabitants in order to learn more about their lives and the island’s history, as well as get clues for your quest. Exploration is non-linear, allowing for an open-ended approach to the order in which Nulphia’s wonders will be experienced. Physics also play an important part here, since every living thing you’ll come across is subject to weight and inertia, allowing for a creative approach in dealing with enemies by throwing them down cliffs, pushing them into water or luring them into traps. Finally, the game adopts a top-down camera perspective and visual style reminiscent of classic action rpgs of the 90s and early 2000s, which I found quite endearing. Nulphia has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
Kodama: Slumber of the Gods: This is the latest metroidvania developed by the creator of Super Roboy, one of my favorite metroidvanias of 2025, so, it is safe to say I’m really excited for this one! Inspired by Japanese folklore, the game follows a spirit warrior who must explore a vibrant land in an effort to awaken its gods! The game boasts exciting precision platforming segments made incredibly enjoyable by tight controls as you leap, dash and climb through carefully crafted gauntlets. Combat is fluid and fast paced, with you dodging, sliding and chaining combos together as you fight against the various enemies populating the setting, with the unlocking of new abilities further enriching, both, your battle and traversal capabilities. Special note goes to the game’s visuals, which are beautifully rendered and painstakingly hand-crafted. If this ends up being of similar quality to Super Roboy, then we’re in for a treat! Kodama: Slumber of the Gods has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
Silent Paradise Anthology: About a year and a half ago I made a video (and post) showcasing five great metroidvanias you can play for free, and in that video (and post) I included two games created by a developer known as Dreamnoid, both of which were of such phenomenal quality that I actively questioned why they were offered for free and not for a fee. Well, said developer has finally decided to try his luck on Steam, and he is bringing his A-game with Silent Paradise Anthology, a collection of four short science fiction metroidvania games that share narrative connections but can be enjoyed as standalone experiences as well. Three of these games are already available for free on itch.io, but this collection will have their definitive editions available, featuring lots of tweaks, improvements and achievements, while the fourth title is brand new and developed solely for this release. Each one of them draws inspiration from classics in the genre and features a ridiculous amount of depth, making them compact yet packed experiences. Please, please go wishlist this and, when it comes out, give it a purchase if you can. It’s going to be available for about five bucks and I cannot overstate how deserving Dreamnoid is of commercial success. I honestly cannot wait to see what he’ll be able to do with a decent budget. Silent Paradise Anthology is expected to come out sometime in May of 2026, and has been confirmed for PC!
LOP Whitefall (Honorable Mention): If you like wanton destruction, then you’re going to love this one! Explore a fallen, ice-covered world in search of its secrets as a gun-toting bunny! This game is all about the complete eradication of anything and everything that stands in your way. Whether its enemies or the environment itself, all that meets the eye is not only fully destructible but also bound to the laws of physics, leading to fantastically demented domino effects of chaos as your surroundings crash and burn in your trigger-happy wake. There are no health bars here, with your approach to victory over your enemies requiring tactical thinking as you wear them down in search of their weak points. This is probably the most cathartic experience on this list, and I cannot wait to play it! LOP Whitefall has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!
Wandersky (Honorable Mention): With bow and arrow as your weapon and most useful tool, you are Kuu, a young girl whom, alongside her companion, Tama, is on a mission to restore the world of Hyndara by defeating the Oremite plague! Here, combat, traversal and puzzle-solving are built around the use of your bow and its single arrow, the latter of which you can shoot, control, move, push and pull in order to solve intricate puzzles, find enemy weak spots and collect materials. Exploration of Hyndara is carried out via the use of your Genbu house, a flying transport that acts as, both, a home and a vehicle as you use it to sail across a sea of clouds in search of your next destination. Said house will also allow you to forge weapons and amulets, cook delicious food and brew some potent potions, making it a paramount aspect of your expedition. Special note goes to the game’s atmospheric soundtrack, which aims to turn every visit to the various biomes of Hyndara into an emotional memory. Wandersky is expected to come out sometime in 2027, and has been confirmed for PC!
Fallen Fates (Honorable Mention): This is the latest game from the developers behind the critically acclaimed Astral Ascent and the very well-received Dark Devotion! The world of Tellus is being torn apart by crystals falling from the sky, wreaking havoc and unleashing mysterious creatures upon the land. In a last-ditch effort to survive the calamity, humans decide to merge with magical beings in order to create powerful warriors and fight back against their encroaching doom. You are one such human named Arven, a ranger who hunts monsters for a living in the company of Kat, an ethereal being with which he has forged a bond, effectively forming a dual consciousness within one body. Both Kat and Arven are highly customizable, with you being capable of upgrading their physical and magical skills in order to fit your playstyle. Combat is, both, hectic and cinematic, with our protagonist duo dashing and dodging through enemy attacks in search of the right time to strike, resulting in truly high stakes battles, especially against the game’s impressive bosses. The world you’ll get to traverse is as dangerous as it is beautiful and mysterious, being home not only to a significant number of foes but also secrets that you’ll have to uncover by making use of your solid traversal skillset, which includes the ability to dash or hook-shot yourself across chasms, as well as climb atop high peaks to get a better lay of the land. Needless to say, this will probably be a banger, so do keep it in your sights. Fallen Fates is expected to come out sometime in March of 2028, and has been confirmed for PC, PS4, PS5, as well as Nintendo Switch 1 and 2!
Phaze Shift: Join the fighter duo of scythe-wielding Aqua and long-range weapon specialist Redd as they journey through the treacherous digital domain of Primora on their way to reach a mysterious spire! Swapping between Aqua and Redd occurs instantaneously, with each character boasting their own combat move-sets, thus giving way to a lot of diversity when it comes to your fighting approach. Said move-sets are further enhanced by certain upgrades you will find on your journey, with you being capable of fusing similar upgrades together in order to give way to new attacks or special traits. The game also wants to introduce certain skills that are not typically found in metroidvanias, such as an omnidirectional dash, EMP shields, teleportation and night visors, just to name a few. If Phaze Shift manages to deliver on its promise of an exciting battle system that holds a lot of surprises, then it could end up being something special! Phaze Shift has no release date as of yet but has been confirmed for PC, with a playtest planned sometime in the winter of 2026!
That's all for today!
So, what did you think of these games? Any wishlists this time around?
