I'm so sad that giphy doesn't have anything from one of the best episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, S2E9 "The Baptism"
It's about a Jewish man converting to marry a Christian woman (sister of Larry's wife, played by Kaitlin Olson!), and as he's getting baptized in a river, Larry having just arrived (and not knowing what a baptism looks like) thought a man was being drowned, so he screams for him to stop! This leads to the Jewish man having a change of faith (hehe) and decides not to convert.
Everyone on the brides side is shitting on Larry, blaming him for the potential fall out of the whole marriage. As Larry, dejected, wanders away from the brides family, the grooms family secretly start saying "thank you for what you did. They're always trying to steal us away and it's great you stood against that."
Of course Larry let's his ego get inflated, and chaos continues to reign. Truly a top 10er

Edit: u/fitzaroo seems to have responded to me with anger, telling me that’s not how it works. And now I can’t see or respond to that comment. No shit buddy. I know that’s not how it works. But if we are doing this, then I just want the religion of every asshole who does terrible things mentioned every time a terrible action is done. Why is it only ever relevant if the perpetrator is Jewish or Muslim? Everyone else gets to act individually, but apparently these religions have every member being exact representations of the whole. Fuck off with that and let me make a joke to feel better about the darkness in this world

Conservatives care about the differentiation because Catholic social teaching goes against conservative doctrine (care for the sick, the poor, the hungry, etc..)
5
u/zdelusion Feb 13 '26
Conservatives don't want to be accountable to a Pope. Even a hypothetical one they mostly agree with. Trump wants to be the Pope to his followers, he's stated this explicitly through his AI memes. His word is God's word as far as he's concerned. They tolerate the Catholics because they vote with them. If the Evangelicals solidify power they'll turn on the Catholics (and the Eastern Orthodox Christians).

Fundamentally, white is a construct, not a race, which is why anyone with fair skin can "identify" as white. This is why the Census had "White Alone - Non Hispanic" listed, although it didn't stop people from checking the box they chose to check. It is a systematic gathering to keep those %'s looking as white as possible. As much of a traitor to his own people as he is, he is unfortunately white af.

Kash Patel’s eyes are in two different time zones, so he counts as two. And Dr. Ben Carson being on speed dial for a photo op is like a backup and totally counts. Uh. . . There is the assistant press secretary that looks like an Asian thumb whose job it is to insult people on Twitter. Dr. Mehmet Ozturk cant be white with that name, so we’ll count him too. And Usha has the most important job of distracting JD from couches and they have like 5 kids so that is like 6 more! So actually, this is the most diverse administration ever!

Not true. Ashkenazi Jews consider themselves white. They also consider themselves a minority. The only reason for that is because of the hatred of others. Otherwise, they would consider themselves no different than an Italian or an Estonian. Source: 50 years of living as a Jew
3
u/DrySea8638 Feb 13 '26
Cool, I never said all Jewish people don’t consider themselves white. I said many. It’s an important qualifier you overlooked.
And it is true that there are Ashkenazi Jews who don’t see them as white and some white people don’t see them as white either. Hard truth I know
8
u/pconrad0 Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26
What "counts" as "white" (or any other "race") depends very much on context, both in the United States, and elsewhere, throughout history.
You might think that someone "looks white" and is Indistinguishable from other "white" people when you look at them, would be considered "white".
But that's not how racial hierarchies work.
The definition of "white" is constantly shifting depending on who needs to be elevated or persecuted. Italians, Jews, Poles, Irish, and many others have found themselves inside or outside the club in various times and places.
Racial categorizations are real in the sense that they have real consequences, but they are all entirely socially constructed.
Racism is a dangerous game.

Yes, an example of "cultural genocide" that is real is the "Indian school" movement where children of indigenous people in North America (both the US and Canada) were separated from their families, prohibited from speaking their native languages or expressing their culture, and forced to dress, act and behave in ways that were similar to "white people".
The slogan was "kill the Indian, save the man". This represented a shift from simple genocide (mass murder) to "cultural genocide" (forced assimilation).
This is not limited to North American history. There are many other examples, ones from every continent except perhaps Antarctica.
→ More replies (6)12
u/DroppinDwarves Feb 13 '26
Please see indigenous people of North America, what happened to them in the US and Canada is a great(horrible) example of cultural genocide.
They were let live but stripped of most connections to their ancestors culture. Children taken and sent to Catholic schools where their hair was cut and forced to only speak english.

Because of that last part. Fear is at the bottom of everything they do. They will thump their holy books because they fear death, arm themselves to the teeth because they fear their neighbors, and hate anyone not like them because they fear the unknown. "white protestants by birth" is wild.
We're all atheist until brainwashing occurs.

The problem is there are 10s of millions of white people that feel very strongly in the fact that they are having their representation taken away. Even if that is categorically false, perception is reality, and it’s a big part of how we got to Trump.

I'd like to add that they treat it as a zero sum game so that when POC actually get some representation it's taken from whites.

Because they know how they treat others. Thus they don't want anyone but 'theirs' in power.
You see it on reddit a lot.
Why aren't males talked about more? Why aren't white people talked about more? Where are their representation in America?!
...
I ain't got the time to explain how stupid they are. But I guess that's what happens, they grow up into these types of adults.

Jeremy Carl, Stephen Miller, Laura Loomer, and other White supremacist Jews are walking a fine line with the ideology they're promoting. The same goes for Black and LGBTQ conservatives thinking they're one of the "good ones" until it's too late.

In the old days, when someone was a sociopath, the village kicked them out. We need to do that again.

I love that Tim Kaine kept his glasses like that whole time and he’s not the one who looked silly.

The fact that this guy even got this far is a sign that we're in a dangerous time.

This claim, that white people, white men, Christians, Christmas, whatever it is are under attack...is so dumb and lazy, yet it persists. It's so obviously wrong, yet white men, including wealthy men in power, continue to make this claim. It's delusional.

His nomination is dead. The Senate has notified the President that do not have the votes for consent.

While this is completely embarrassing for Carl, this is somehow a more respectable performance than the Attorney General of The United States gave on Wednesday. The bar has never been lower and that's saying something.

I used to wait on Tim Kaine's wife a lot at a restaurant I managed in RVA.... Then one night when he was on the ballot with Hillary, I had a well dressed man with a plug in his ear come in and say "we need the entire half of the restaurant reserved" "uhhhhh why?" "Tim Kaine wants a burger and is coming with his wife" "Ohhh yeah sure no problem we love Anne!"
30 minutes later, in comes Tim and Anne, with about 10 service agents, we fed them all, and he actually sat in a booth right next to of all people, MY PARENTS. My late father was a staunch republican, and he and Tim talked throughout their meal, and he was so gracious to take pictures with anyone that would approach them.
He's a good dude - and his wife is a wonderful lady

The term "cultural genocide" is not real. There can be "cultural shifts" or "genocide." Using cultural levers to 'breed out' traits is just one of the tools and forms of genocide. 'White' people are not experiencing a genocide of any kind.

The abysmal IQ of these people is absolutely insufferable. I can't listen to them or watch them because I feel like my own brain cells start to melt away.

u/dojo_shlom0 Feb 13 '26
Kaine broke down his argument entirely. well freaking done. we need more of this, and we need these white-wanna-be-victims exposed for their absolute non-sense arguments.

u/EvilJabFace Feb 13 '26
How these people keep getting placed in positions of authority is appalling to me!

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 f’n nationalists. Please explain to me how a diverse society is a downfall??

u/No-Joy-Goose Feb 13 '26
Protestant is so general too, as others have commented. I personally don't need to see numbers as I can look at pictures. I'm really decent at pictures and the ability to see that "whites", in general, are represented.
Also what cultural genocide is he referring to? Which stolen culture is now being taken away from the white man? FFS

It's not enough for him that whites have more; he wants them to have all when we need more diversity in all those institutions Kaine mentioned.

u/Reno_Cash Feb 13 '26
What an absolute clown show. This administration is just punking us now to see how far they can take the bit.

u/Dananism Feb 13 '26
He looks like he’s about to cry as Tim Kaine calls his stupid rhetoric out on its face lmfao

u/Direct_Canary4523 Feb 13 '26
It's always extra ironic when most of our white culture is appropriated from every other culture on the planet here in America, which, was in fact the point once upon a time, or at least the common people were convinced by those representing them that it was the point.

u/RecipeConsistent Feb 13 '26
I wouldn’t be surprised if Kaine voted for this guy at the end of it all. Kaine has the heart of a butterfly…. Worst VP pick ever..

u/McBernes Feb 13 '26
Oh my that's rich. People who look like him tried to commit physical and cultural genocide against the indigenous peoples of north america.
2
u/WavesOfEchoes Feb 13 '26
How is this even a fucking conversation? White Christians are over represented in every way imaginable in this country. This guy can go get fucked.

There is one area where rich white men are very badly under-represented, and that area is in criminal court as defendants.
