Guide Elden Ring Convergence Mod Short Install Guide
Since it took me a lot of tries to get Elden Ring Convergence mod running on Steam Deck. I prepared an archive that you can extract into your ER Game Folder

It contains Modengine2, SkipTheIntro mod, SeamlessCoop mod, ErdTools and Elden Mod Loader (dinput8.dll) plus config fiiles.
I had to rename some DLLs cause load order was important.
If putting together all these files is against someones license please take my apology, just want to help get users running your mods. I dont take credits. Mods were NOT made by me! pls support the authors.
You also need to download Convergence mod (manual version not installer) and put the "mod" folder of it into your ER Game folder.
Last step is launch options in Steam. Copy and paste them from the file contents of launch_options.txt in my archive and you are ready to launch the game.
Please make sure you keep a copy of your save games. And start a new game.
Hope it helps some of you get it running.
EDIT: A lot of ppl seem to run into white / black screen crashes recently. Try removing Skip the Intro mod, that should fix it!

I'm getting a save data corrupted error, even with no save data in the cloud, nor in the compatdata. Not sure why, currently trying to fix but I can't figure out how to get rid of seamless coop which i think is the cause.
EDIT: Oh and I've tried using proton GE 7-43 and 8-14, needed the latter to get the game to launch. Also tried editing the load time in the mod loader ini
EDIT 2: I've got it to work with an updated modengine 2 DLL, but it appears to not be loading the conversion stuff. Seamless coop gives its message, then another pops up saying its a different save file, but the background still only says elden ring, even tho it was conversion-ed using the older mod engine 2
EDIT 3: I added everything from the google drive folder again, and now it works by default with proton 8-14, not sure what got it to work tho

Followed OP instructions and managed to get it to launch with Proton GE 7-43, however there was a save data corrupted error. Tried with Proton GE 8-16 and it won't launch now even if I go back to Proton GE 7-43 :(
EDIT: Managed to get it to recover with a good 'ol fashioned restart. Also initially screen was black (could hear audio) but then clicking the Quick Settings button a couple of times seemed to fix it. Still have the save data corrupted error tho :(

If you do not care about the coop mod here's what worked for me - 10/4/2023
- Download/Install Elden Ring normally through Steam.
- Launch the game and, if you have no characters create one. This will do some important setup. I read somewhere that you need a save beyond the Chapel but idk if that's true
- Go to desktop mode and install ProtonUp-QT which you can launch and then use to download Proton GE 7-43. Go to the game properties -> compatibility and force it to use GE-Proton7-43
- Follow the OPs instructions exactly as written - I dropped the Convergence Mod I got from Nexus in my
home/Documentsfolder. NOTE: If you want to easily switch back to vanilla DO NOT OVERRIDEstart_protected_game.exe, instead rename it. Likestart_protected_game_vanilla.exe. - Go to the "mods" folder and delete
no4_elden_ring_seamless_coop.dllandno5_SkipTheIntro.dll - Go back to Gaming Mode. Launch from there (from desktop mode it will crash).
These steps helped me get around game crashing soon after launch (white or black screen) and "save data corrupted" error.
This took me a WHILE to figure out, probably because this is the first thing I tried to do once I got my Steam deck :P
----------------------------BEWARE: As far as I can tell this solution fails to load the eldenring_alt_saves.dll so this solution will overwrite vanilla save files. So remember to back them up! Just create a copy of the save and rename it to anything: ER0000.sl2.bak is a popular choice. If you plan on ever switching back to vanilla - like for the DLC - the game will not run with the mod save. To get it to run again you will likely have to 1. rename your backup save back to ER0000.sl2 and change the name of your mod save and/or 2. Verify your game files which will remove modded content from your current save. I would move your mod save to another folder before verifying your game files. I learned this by doing :c

As I was able to launch the game with the coop mod, but got stuck on a "save data corrupted" error I suspect if you can fix your save somehow it will fix the mod. Didn't test it but you possibly just need to rename your save file to ER0000.co2 (.co2 is coop save file).
I'll make a follow up if I can figure out how to enable the eldenring_alt_saves.dll to easily switch between vanilla and Convergence mod.

FOLLOW UP
- It is unclear whether the version of Proton matters. I re-did the whole thing with Proton GE 8-16 no hiccups.
- To make use of the
eldenring_alt_saves.dllall you have to do is move both the alt_saves dll and config file to the /Game/mods folder (where all the other dlls are). You should see a save with .mod or .cnv in your saves folder alongside your vanilla .sl2 save file.- To switch back to vanilla:
- Remove the launch options script
- Rename your your ~81MB
start_protected_game.exeto something else - I suggeststart_protected_game_mod.exe- and rename yourstart_protected_game_vanilla.exeback tostart_protected_game.exe.EDIT: Moved some explanation to another comment

Sorry for the late and probably stupid question but after deleting no4_elden_ring_seamless_coop.dll how did you get the co-op to work? Edit- I ended up downloading the newest version of the seamless mod,replaced the files in the mods folder,renamed the dll file back with no4,changed the save file i created when starting the convergence install to .co2 like you said and it still was giving me the corrupt save pop up. so i took off steam cload save and it worked!!! thanks again for the guide. i have not tried it with a friend yet but will post once i do to make sure i did it correctly.

There’s some trouble with the manual download of convergence mod at nexusmods going on. But running the installer.exe with a recent version of wine should work according to others.

It’s simple, really. Copy my stuff to Game Folder and the „mod“ folder of Convergence. Add launch options. Done.

Is there any way to get all this working on just a PC? My SO sent this to me as a modpack to play with them. They have a steam deck, I just got the ol tower.

Sure on PC it's even easier. Just download the Convergence Mod Installer from their website and follow their setup.

It’s really not that difficult to extract an archive into a game folder and copy a „mod“ folder there. I need infos how your game folder looks like, screenshot. And your launch options then we see hopefully what’s wrong. We get this sorted out and get you running :-)

If you mean if reforged with convergence mod together I don’t know. But if you mean if installing reforged mod works alone using this guide as how to install then yes, it will most probably work. It’s always the same process to get mods loaded on SteamDeck. Just use the „mod“ folder of Reforged instead of Convergence. And if Reforged has DLLs they go to the „mods“ folder.

this is a dope post and i'll definitely be saving it for later.
i'm a bit hesitant for now though because i saw footage of the convergence mod for dark souls 3 on steam deck and it looked awful, presumably because it had to run at low graphics settings. is this an issue with the elden ring version?

Never changed my graphic settings to run mods. Elden Ring is super optimized in Proton by Valve. And Dark Souls 3 should run at high setting too without trouble. It’s super old and needs way less performance. But only played Elden Ring modded on the Deck.

To anyone that comes across this forum, I figured out the fix for the Save data corruption issue. With a totally clean install on the deck, I make a quick save game with no mods or anything. After that I followed the guide above and install the mods. Finally I went into the save data location on the deck and changed the clean ER0000.sl2 file to ER0000.co2. Finally it worked with seamless coop and convergence mod!

PLEASE READ!!!
I installed your mod the way that you recommended by extracting the files into the game folder. I didn't delete any other files from your folder. Everything runs flawlessly the way that you set it up. To everyone who can hear the game on booting but has a black screen. If you press the steam button, you can go all the way down by where it says exit game and click Elden Ring instead of the anti flashbang window. The game is running behind this window because it's a part of the intro mod. I had to delete no files. Follow the instructions, as far as extract the folder from google drive as directed into your game folder and download convergence into your game folder as well. Etc. DONT DELETE ANY FILES!!! and select the game from under the exit game option in steam UI once it starts running 😅 Tested and verified on old seem like a new steam deck including limited edition 😀 Sorry about the awful grammar. Just trying to hurry up so I can get back to the game 🎮 😇
Because of the mod, sometimes it goes away on its own after 20 to 30 seconds. But if you don't want to wait as long , just go into steam UI and select elden ring instead of the anti flash bang window there we go! GG guys! Seamless work! Me and my bubby are playing together right now! ✅️ 🥰
EDIT: I didn't even have to change the proton compatibility layer the mod works perfectly with the default you launch the game with. HAPPY ELDEN RINK!

Hi, thanks for this guide. I'm a beginner both in Linux and modding and I'm trying to make this work in my linux pc. I did everything you said : extract your archive in my ER Game folder, copy and paste the launch_options.txt in the launch option of my ER steam game, download manual version of Convergence mod and put it on my ER game folder. I don't see any "mod" folder on my Convergence file, though, so I just moved all the folder into the ER game folder. Maybe that's the problem ? If you come by, your help will be very appreciated ! i did end up getting it i had to remove seamless coop and skip the intro but the new version of convergence requires shadow of erdtree which i cant afford rn but it DID launch to the main menu

Hey Guys dont know if this will help but me and a friend were getting convergence to work and all you literally need to do now is set it up the same way you do as windows,
add the launch convergence bat file as a non steam game (make sure its running proton experimental)
if you want seamless add the ersc settings.ini and the ersc.dll and the actual seamless coop folder from the mod (set it up normally) and put those inside of the convergence er folder.
launch the bat file from steam and it should work and add in seamless coop too if you added it.

Yes I can from the start after the first door you go through to get to your spawn point. Try changing which proton version youre using, I'm using experimental but my friend had to use 7.0-62 (I think that's the version he's using) and we're both able to play fine without getting stuck

Again just try using another proton build or it could be your internal memory needs a bit more cleaning out as when you load new areas for the first time (and this does count as a separate game on steam deck) it needs extra space.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what you and your friend did, but this mod doesn't seem to be working properly on deck with the current version. I've tried every available version of proton, and only experimental and 9 will even launch the game, everything else (including 7.60) just fails and closes. But when in game, no matter what I do, roundtable will not load. I can play the game mostly fine beyond that, other than some more aggressive than normal frame drops. The only other thing I've noticed at all is one new boss that I can't hit at all. Attacks just don't register on him. And roundtable isn't causing any crashes, or even freezing, it's just that the load screen whenever I TP there simply stops progressing at about 80% of the bar. I've let my game sit open for over an hour multiple times and it simply does not load.

It worked! I had to remove the seamless coop folder because it was giving me an error about a corrupted save (which after checking, my normal characters appear to be fine). But I was able to get it running and start a new game. I'm on desktop linux as a side note. And I used the current AUR version of ProtonGE. THANKS AGAIN! <3

Does this still work with the current version of the game/mod? I tried following instructions and it either doesn't open the mod or it gives me an error message saying the Game Data is a different version from the Save Data, and doesn't let me past the welcome screen. Pls help

Hey does anyone have any insight on how to get the convergence mod to get running on the steam deck? I’ve gone through multiple guides and I’ve only been able to get seamless and some other DLL mods to work with mod loader. I would really like to have a step by step guide showing me how to get convergence up and running. I have followed 2 different guides and have gotten ModEngine2 to run but not the convergence mod with it. I’m guessing I have the paths messed up?

There’s no manual version anymore? Oh shoot. But the mod folder from the installer should work as well. Show me your Game Folder structure and tell me what happens when you start the game

Deleted my previous comment. Somehow the mod folder ended up nested inside the mods folder instead of in the game folder. I certainly didn't intend for that, but putting it in the right place fixed the error.
I do recommend having wine to open the initial exe for anyone needs to use the installer version

Seamless Coop uses Steams Friends and matchmaking system. So I guess you need 2 copies. Because you need 2 Steam Accounts.

It should be a similar setup. Just change the „mod“ folder from convergence to the „mod“ folder from randomizer I guess. But I’ve never used that mod myself. For most the setup is identical.

Thanks for the great writeup. Quick couple questions. 1) is there any way for me to check which mods have been loaded when running the game.. eg how do I verify the convergence mod has been loaded without any issues 2) I am getting a black screen with just a cursor when I load the game after adding mods. Fixed it self if I sleep and wake up. I am in protonGE 7.49. any idea how to fix this?

The black screen has to do with the skip intro dll. Go into the folder's config file and change the number to 0 and it should be fine

You can check the mod loader log file maybe it helps. If you get a Black Screen I can not really tell what’s going on without knowing what your Game Folder looks like etc. what mods and do forth

Yes but I’d suggest you delete all additional files from Game folder. Don’t know how sensitive EAC is about banning when finding foreign files.

The install guide in this article is very questionable. Launch the Game, after that, copy the mod to the „mods“ folder…choose convergence mod from the menu…ok ?!?!?

You just need to copy my files from the ZIP Archive to your ER game folder. Then the „mods“ folder from the Convergence Mod Manual Download. Set your launch options in Steam. Done. Maybe your Proton Version is not working. Try Proton-GE-43.

I'm actually running into this exact same issue. It happens on regular proton as well as GE-43. I did a completely vanilla install and followed your setup and encountered this issue every time.
What's interesting is if I just do Seamless Co-op by itself and add the executable as a non-steam game it works without issue, but trying to add any other mod it crashes every time.

And my guide beside the launch options is not Linux specific at all. Same setup works under windows too. To help narrow down what you did wrong, show me your Game Folder content.

Maybe you’re misreading the Coop Message Box. It always shows when starting the game. Just click it away.

Sorry I suck but in new to Linux and computer/modding stuff in general.
So I followed the instructions to the best I can and do I launch the game from steam or the Convergence folder I'm scared to get banned, I mean I have no intentions of doing Vanilla gameplay on steam but I'm scared to take the risk.

If you’re still scared, what I would do is launch the game disconnected from the internet to force Elden ring to launch offline mode. Then in options, set it to automatically launch in offline mode.

You must have missed some files I guess. Or they got corrupted. Try replacing the „mod“ folder with a fresh copy.

so I download the convergence mod from nexus and it comes out as an exe and when I try to click it asks me what app I want to use to execute it. I’m kinda stuck in a loop here any tips?

Been wanting to play The Convergence since I saw it that first time. But gave up when I saw it required a .bat launch of the game. Found your post just now and I just want to say thank you. Convergence is downloading right now, hopefully it works.
Also, quick question. Is the .exe you provide EAC compatible? As in will it launch the game without EAC or not?

It will launch without EAC. It’s just a renamed copy of EldenRing.exe nothing more.

Hi there, I got some issues while trying to play with a friend. So, basically, all the mods are working, but for some reason, we can't play together with the seamless. We followed the instructions on the description page of the mod in Nexus Mods to set up the seamless (like setting the password), but even after that, while in game trying to host my friend, we both had the message that says that we have to set up a session password. Now, as I said, we set up the password already, but it doesn't work.
The seamless coop modders say to run the game via the "launch_elden_ring_seamlesscoop.exe", we tried but will launch the game with only the seamless coop mod loaded.
At this point we don't know what else to do to play the convergence and the seamless coop.
EDIT: I gave a look to my mod loader log and the convergence mod isn't in the list... That's strange, right?? It should be loaded

Don’t start with the seamless coop exe file. That’s not how it’s done on Steam Deck with additional mods. You just need the launch options as I wrote in the guide. Extract my Archive to your ER game folder and put the „mod“ folder from convergence there too. Done. Simple as that. Show me your ER game folder and I might see what’s wrong. If not we can PM to further narrow it down.

Hello, Has anyone tried this recently? I can't get this to work despite copying everything to a T. Elden ring will open and then close right after a white screen. I'm beginning to feel like I'm goiong to have to get a bigger SSD and install windows to experience this :(

Change the delay time to 1000 instead of 2500 It’s on one of the text files on /GAME Make sure you have the launch options as in the instructions

steam has an error where you have to be closing it and changing the delay time to some values. for me it has worked on 1000 and 000, but its trial and error and you MUST fully close and reopen steam with each try. once it works, it will always work

Sorry, that’s my bad. I have all of the files from the drive put in my game folder as well as the convergence mod folder. But when I try running the game it crashes after a white screen, so I can tell it’s doing something. I did it all on the deck itself without using a pc to get the files transferred. I couldn’t find the proton version you used, but found one called GE-7Proton43. It’s probably an error on my part, but any help would be appreciated.

You can try deleting skip the intro mod. Helped a few others they said to me with start up crashes.

Yeah this isn’t working. Followed the guide to a T, yet the game continues to crash whenever I try launching. Flashes a white screen then crashes. I tried removing SkipTheIntro, no luck. Tried both the manual install and the auto installer. Again, ZERO luck.

Yes 7-43 is meant. Last time I played it was still working for me. Maybe 2 weeks ago. I guess something with your mod, mods folders is wrong.

I don’t know about the first mod, but using multiple „mod“ folders is definitely possible but requires a config file if to specify paths for each „mod“ folder. DLL mods is easier. Just put them into the „mods“ (plural) folder.

Followed instructions down to every detail but keeps saying it failed to save game and that save data is corrupted. I don't know what to do anymore. Someone please give me a fix 😩
EDIT: After deleting some seamless files, convergence is up and running while offline with no possibility of multi-player. Anyone know how I can maybe go back into the folders and get seamless up and running as well? The struggle has been real

were you managed to run Elden Ring Reborn as well on STEAM DECK? i got mine running but it always Corrupt Save File on Title Screen. I tried the fix which Running in Vanilla then to the mod, same issue.

I got it running perfectly but got carried away and tried to install the convergence merged eternal blades mod after and it totally messed my game up. Messed up somewhere trying to do that myself. Any advice for getting convergence running right again? Thinking about trying to just install it again even though many of the files are already there. Any help super appreciated. Was silly and broke my game. Duno how to uninstall convergence either.
