From what I understand - they are getting him for not swiping his card to pay the fare until they came to reprimand him for not paying his fare. Then he was a dick about it.

It's a big problem on streetcars in Toronto because you can board at any door and the machine to tap and pay is right there, but the driver is only at the front of course. So quite a few people get on, don't tap, and just hang out near the machine and only tap if they see fare inspectors. But if inspectors see someone that was already aboard that all the sudden rushes to tap they can give them a ticket anyway even if they technically paid before they got to them.
I would virtually guarantee this guy was doing that and is now playing the victim.

Yeah, the lady even says that she's not giving him a ticket for failure to pay, he's giving him a ticket for not complying with the posted sign.
And the sign clearly says to tap every time you enter and failure to tap will result in a fine.

I guarantee you this job has a very huge turnover rate. The dude recording is likely not even in the top 3 assholes they had to take abuse from that day.

yea. i was born in Toronto in the 1970ās and ive found these instagram posts about TO slang to be hilarious. i lived in canada till i was 5 and then my parents moved to the U.S. but i crack up at those videos

I was on that streetcar, and saw the confrontation, but didnāt see when he tapped. The guy at the back smoking was kicked off by the driver a few stops later.

Without. He only tapped to purchase a ticket after the police confronted him about it thinking that would get him out of the fine. He got upset when and started accusing the other guy when they didn't accept his lies.
